Employer branding is simply about creating an emotional connection with employees at every touchpoint throughout their experience – that is - just as you need to create an experience for your customers.

Every day your employees make choices. They get up, get moving, choose to go to work or stay home. When they do go to work, they choose whether to connect or not. Commit or not. Contribute or not. Engage or not. Serve your customers or not.

And surprisingly these choices are not made based solely on compensation. Employees want more than that. In a Deloitte Research report that’s entitled, “It's 2008: Do you know where your talent is?” they suggest that superior compensation is insufficient as a retention tool. They go on to say that companies need to implement integrated strategies for giving today’s skilled workers what they want: development for their current and future careers, deployment into challenging work, and a sense of connection to their peers and the organization.

It’s critical to build an employer brand across the entire spectrum of the employee experience from the point where they’re merely considering your company as a place to work, to while they’re employed and even afterwards too. That goes from their initial impressions, to the interview experience, their rejection or their onboarding to their work experience all the way to the processes when they leave whether it is through resignation, retirement or termination.
